About us

ALIS (Administration of literary rights in Sweden) is a collective rights management society presently representing approximately 4 000 writers.

ALIS, a non-profit organisation, was founded in 1995 by the writers’ own representatives, the Swedish Writers’ Union, the Swedish Union of Journalists, Writers Guild of Sweden, and the Swedish Association for Educational Writers.

ALIS manages the economic rights of copyright owners when their material is being re-used. Material, which has been published or otherwise made public, can be re-used in printed and digital formats, as books, in media such as databases, radio and television, but also in movies and theaters.

ALIS offers extensive services to its members. ALIS negotiates and signs individual, general and collective agreements as well as authorises the use of literary works on an individual basis. ALIS oversees and collects copyright remuneration and attempts to ensure that other parties comply with contractual obligations.

Besides above, ALIS also has several collaborations with other collecting societies in other parts of the world. For example, with ALCS, representing writers in the UK and Northern Ireland and with Sanasto, representing Finnish authors. These agreements ensure transfers of remuneration between Sweden and other countries. The agreements are essential in making sure that writers’ copyright is ensured regardless of where in the world their works are used.
