ALIS Operations Have Been Discontinued
ALIS, a non-profit organisation, was founded in 1995 by the writers’ own representatives, the Swedish Writers’ Union, the Swedish Union of Journalists, Writers Guild of Sweden, and the Swedish Association for Educational Writers.

ALIS no longer conducts any active operations and will be permanently wound up around 31 August 2026.

All licensing activities were discontinued as of 31 December 2025, and ALIS no longer represents the rights of any authors or other rights holders after that date.
No licences have been issued since the autumn of 2025. Individual agreements concluded in respect of specific works or individual authors or translators are now administered directly by the rights holder in dealings with publishers or other users.
If You Are a User of Literary Works
ALIS can no longer enter into agreements and will no longer be able to assist in identifying rights holders of literary works.
Where the intended use concerns a specific work, or several works by the same author, permission (by way of a licence or agreement) must be obtained directly from the rights holder. The Swedish Writers’ Union and Sveriges Författarfond may, where they hold relevant information, provide contact details for rights holders.
Where a user wishes to make use of a large number of works by many different authors over an extended period, and where the specific works that may be used in the future are not yet known, it may be possible to conclude a collective licence agreement. In such cases, enquiries should be directed to the organisation most closely associated with the category of works concerned.
